QuiltFest 2008 Categories

A category will be eligible for monetary awards when there are at least 12 entries. If a category does not have 12 entries, it will still be judged and ribbons will be awarded. Each quilt must consist of three components: top, batting, and back held together with stitching (excluding crazy quilts).

Large Pieced - made and quilted by one person. Size no larger than 110” X 110” (top of sleeve on back 90” from bottom) and more than 50% pieced.

Large Pieced - Duet - made and quilted by two people. Size no larger than 110” X 110” (top of sleeve on back 90” from bottom) and more than 50% pieced.

Intermediate Pieced - made and quilted by one person. Total of all sides greater than 180” but less than 288” and more than 50% pieced. (Includes pieced crib quilts, lap quilts, and wall hangings.)

Intermediate Pieced - Duet - made and quilted by two people. Total of all sides greater than 180” but less than 288” and more than 50% pieced.

Appliquéd Quilts - Size no larger than 110” X 110” (top of sleeve on back 90” from bottom) but greater than 151" and more than 50% appliquéd.

Small Pieced - pieced and/or appliquéd. Total of all sides less than 180”.

Miniature Quilts - pieced and/or appliquéd. Category not determined by size alone. Must by a small version of a full-sized quilt or wall hanging. Maximum block size is 5” and the longest side of the quilt must be no more than 30”.

Other Techniques - Examples of this category will include whole cloth quilts, yo-yo quilts, embroidered and/or heavily embellished quilts, crazy quilts, cathedral window quilts, and quilts with very special techniques. Any size except miniature.

Large Art Quilts - quilts that are an original design or an original interpretation of a design. Quilt shall not be a copy of an existing work or a commercial pattern and may be contemporary or traditional. Size no larger than 110" X 110" (top of sleeve on back 90" from the bottom of quilt).

Small Art Quilts - quilts that are an original design or an original interpretation of a design. Quilt shall not be a copy of an existing work or a commercial pattern and may be contemporary or traditional. Total of all sides less than 150".

Collaborative Quilts - quilts made by three or more people. Includes all sizes and techniques (including miniature). Progressive and round robin quilts should be included in this category.

QuiltFest Challenge 2008 - “New Dimensions in Quilting ”
Entries must comply with guidelines and fabrics found in the QuiltFest 2008 Challenge Kit.

Young Quiltmakers' Quilts - all quilts made by quilters under the age of 18 or students in grade 12 or under. Entire quilt must be pieced, quilted or tied by the Young Quiltmaker. Young quiltmakers are not limited to this category. The age of the quilter is required and will be listed in the program.
